Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

I worked part of Tuesday from the hotel room again. I met Maureen, Kevin and Carolyn for lunch at Disney Springs Art Smith's Homecomin' restaurant. They were already seated on the porch on the water by the time I got there. We had a good lunch and then they did some shopping before we took a short afternoon break back at our hotels. Maureen met us at Coronado Springs and we all took a bus (not Maureen's preferred mode of transportation) to Magic Kingdom for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. Maureen and Mike had bought party tickets for us all. Thanks Mike! Thanks Maureen!

The first thing that Kevin had us do was get photos with Winnie the Pooh and his pals - Eeyore, Piglet and Tigger. We got some cute photos and then Maureen and I rode the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. I realized on this ride that Pooh and his buddies had a very dangerous neighborhood. There were tornadoes, floods and it seemed like an unimaginable number of other natural disasters. Winnie the Pooh was tough.

Here are our Winnie the Pooh pictures.

After Winnie, we made a few stops around the park for our party cookies and beverages. Hot chocolate is my favorite. Then we checked in for our garden party that Mike and Maureen had bought tickets for us all. There was a little misunderstanding and we were seated in the rear section which had almost no view of the fireworks, but we did have food and drinks and a private garden viewing section for the fireworks. It worked out fine although Maureen did get really, really upset about the situation when we first got there. She troopered her way through it though.

Maureen and I walked over to ride Astro Orbiter before the fireworks but it was down so we rode Space Mountain instead. We got back with time to spare before fireworks started. Our viewing area in the private garden area was great with plenty of room. No seating other than on the ground, but plenty of room and perfect viewing.

After the fireworks, we watched the second show and the parade and then headed back to our hotels. We, of course, wanted a Minnie Van. Since we couldn't get those in front of Magic Kingdom, we walked over to Contemporary Hotel where we got two Uber rides (neither was a Minnie Van). Maureen took hers all by herself as she was at her hotel alone. This is the ride where Maureen's driver tried to drop her off at a gas station. She protested, probably loudly, until he eventually did drop her off at her resort. He did, however, drop her off at the exact opposite side of her resort. The walk would have been very lengthy and in the dark for a lot of the walk and already after midnight so she got another taxi to take her to the other side of her resort. Poor Maureen.

Be Our Guest at Magic Kingdom

Monday, December 3rd 2018  was a half day for me. I worked all day (or at least most of the day) from the hotel room at Coronado Springs. As soon as I could wrap up client work for the day, I jumped on a bus and headed over to Magic Kingdom to meet Maureen, Kevin and Carolyn. Maureen and I had FastPasses for Peter Pan - my favorite ride at Magic Kingdom. It was great flying over London and realizing that I would actually be in London in just a few weeks. Our flying ship stopped unexpectedly as we were flying over the Indian campfire. We lurched forward twice before the ride got underway again. When they say rides can start at any time without notice, they really mean it. After Peter Pan, Maureen and I met Kevin and Carolyn on the bridge in front of the Beast's castle. We did not have to wait very long before they announced our names and walked us into the castle for dinner at Be Our Guest. It was an early dinner but Be Our Guest is always crowded. We were seated in the main di...

The Grand Floridian, Minnie Vans & Monorails

Sunday December 2nd 2018 A Minnie Van, the Grand Floridian, a Ride on the Monorail into the Contemporary Hotel and Fireworks! After leaving the Christmas Tree Trail,  we took a Minnie Van to the Grand Floridian  to see the giant gingerbread house and Christmas decorations and a couple of drinks at Mizner's Lounge. The Minnie Van rides are like Uber or Lyft rides except they are specific to Disney World properties and are driven by Disney World employees. While our experiences with other ride operators have been iffy, the Minnie Van rides have been very nice. Get the app. Enjoy the ride.  The gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian is always impressive. It is a Christmas tradition with the Grand Floridian and it takes them months to plan, prepare and build their Christmas gingerbread house each year. In the picture above, you can see the roof of the gingerbread house over Kevin's shoulder. They really put a great deal of thought and effort into this house. Add it...

Christmas Trip 2018 to Disney World

Thursday, December 6, 2018 - I am riding back from my 2018 Christmas Trip to Disney World so this is a great time for me to blog about this five day trip. This Disney World trip included Kevin, Kevin's Mom (Carolyn), Maureen and me. Sharon and Beth and Mike were all supposed to go, but Sharon is recovering from a horrendous dog attack (two of her dogs attacked her one night last month in her front yard and she had to have surgery and is in no condition to travel), Beth was going to travel with Sharon so that didn't work out and Mike had to help with his grandson in New Orleans. We missed them and hope they can all join us for another trip to Disney World soon. These next several pages cover our trip. We had a great time and are already planning the next trip. Just to mention a few of the high points, we saw the new hotel tower at Coronado Springs, joined Mickey at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, saw Neil Patrick Harris as he narrated the Christmas Story at Epcot...
